Advising

My advising follows a developmental arc. When trainees first start working with me, I am closely involved in problem formulation and methodology development, working with them on the relevant literature and the connection between a scientific question and a statistical contribution. As their judgment develops, I shift responsibility toward them: they lead meetings, defend methodological choices, mentor junior collaborators, and shape the publication strategy. I encourage trainees to pursue questions they are passionate about and can eventually own, and continue to pursue into their own careers.
